That was a humorous, clever idea to have your son imitate the character in Christmas Story. The involvement of young visitors in the 50/50 raffle drawing is one of the many unique things about the Redford that I always enjoy.

The Redford usually leaves the train up in January, at least for the first show, so there's another chance to see it. That first weekend of 2008 is going to be a busy movie weekend, with the Redford showing Manchurian Candidate, and the Michigan starting its 80th birthday celebration with Some Like It Hot, Mary Poppins, and other movies.

I like your analysis of the film, about the different emotions that it touches. It was amazing how sympathetic Spielberg makes the audience feel for non-human characters in a movie. Spielberg has created a lot of modern classics that have found a nice home at the Redford, like the recently shown Jaws, Close Encounters, E.T., and Indiana Jones movies.

Thanks for the nice comments about the photos. I was waiting for the DIA renovation to finish before posting any photos so that the DFT would look as good as the other theaters. It's interesting how each theater uses arches in its designs, both inside and outside the theaters.

Also, I saw The Bishop's Wife at the Penn, and there was Karolyn Grimes again, as the daughter of David Niven and Loretta Young. The movie also had Bobby Anderson, who played the young George Bailey in It's a Wonderful Life.

I LOVE the Redford Theater. The train set is always my favorite and I just checked the schedule and they don't show another film until January 4th!!! It appears I will miss the train this year. I love the way the folks at the Redford come out on stage and great the crowds and the cartoons are a BIG plus.

I fell in love with organ music at the Redford. John Lauter is great!

I agree with you 1940's Christmas movies are awesome. I love "It's A Wonderful Life" I've seen it so many times and I never get tired of it. I even met Zuzu (Karolyn Grimes) at the Redford a few years back. It was an exciting night meeting her because I love the movie so much.

I'm also please to see you mention the Penn! A great place to see a film too.

Lastly, I love the front page of your web site. Having photos of the places you feature is very nice. However, the DIA really needs a marquee to dress things up a bit. (ha-ha) It is such a beautiful theater on the inside and it has always been a mystery to me why they don't have a cool marquee.

Hi Robert,
It was nice to see you at the Redford this past weekend. As for A.I. I saw it when it first came out and was impressed. It is a very deep film. The subject matter not only talks about wants, hopes and dreams but deals with a darker and larger problems in our society.Prejudice and bigotry is still am major problem in our society. It is amazing to see a film address it in the way I.A. does. I feel A.I. will become a classic and I hope more people will see this film a get the messages Krubeck and Spielberg intended.
Thanks
Allen

Congratulations on your film tying for the best short film at the Detroit Docs Festival:

http://detroitdocs.com/

Your film showed the same kind of respect and empathy that Albert Maysles kept emphasizing in his comments. I appreciate your comment on my blog entry - I look forward to your future work.
